Gallagher Group has proudly partnered with Wheeleasy Mobility by loaning the charity a much-needed space at Hermitage Court. The support comes at a crucial time, as Wheeleasy had struggled to find suitable premises with adequate parking to accommodate temporary disabled clients in the area. Hermitage Court benefits from being close to both Maidstone Hospital and Barming train station, offering convenient transport options for both volunteers and clients, and ensuring support for those that need it is easily accessible.
Wheeleasy Mobility, an evolution of the British Red Cross’s successful local services, has expanded its role beyond equipment provision. The charity now offers social prescribing, long-term equipment supply, and signposting services to support individuals during challenging times of reduced mobility. The partnership with Gallagher ensures Wheeleasy can continue offering face-to-face services, bringing vital physical and emotional support to individuals navigating recovery and rehabilitation.
Stephen Gallagher, the Group’s Chief Investment Officer, expressed his commitment to the charity’s mission:
“The Gallaghers are delighted to support Wheeleasy and its committed, passionate, and energetic group of volunteers. When someone is faced with reduced mobility, this can often be a daunting, stressful, and isolating period. We have witnessed the physical support Wheeleasy provides, often significantly reducing recovery and rehabilitation periods, mitigating knock-on impacts on the wider NHS. But we were particularly impressed with the mental wellbeing and support visitors were given – this support at a crucial time gives patients hope, a friendly ear, and a smile, and that was a critical reason why we were compelled to secure a base and a future for Wheeleasy in the local community.”
Wheeleasy’s founding ethos is driven by feedback from those they have supported over the years, with a simple but powerful motto: You don’t know you want us until you need us. Nicky Callow from the charity said, “The team have so many combined years of experience and the hard work over those years is made all worthwhile by the glorious feedback from the community. Knowing we can help make even the smallest difference at a time of personal crisis is why we want to be there, day in day out, ready to help whenever you may need it.”
With Gallagher Group’s assistance, the charity looks forward to continuing its invaluable work in the local community across Maidstone.
