Gallagher were awarded the Infrastructure package to deliver the on site drainage, roads, services, and S278 works to Bellingham Way to enable the site. The Unit 7 groundworks award followed for the DHL Distribution Centre. Our works included foundations, drainage and interceptor installations, services and external works including permeable car parks and external yard slabs. Further awards followed for Units 1 & 2 and Unit 6 groundworks packages.
All works were secured via separate Client subcontracts through a competitive tender process.
Completed works include 40,000m2 of external concrete yard slabs, 5,800m of drainage in diameters up to 750mm and depths up to 6m within challenging ground conditions due to the close proximity of the Medway River. Trenchless excavation solutions were used to install 600mm diameter drains beneath an existing culvert.
Two packaged pump stations, two private pump station chambers and an adoptable pump station have been constructed, and ten interceptor tanks have been installed across the site. A 230m insitu concrete retaining wall supports the public right of way adjacent to the M20 motorway at heights up to 2.3m. This presented various challenges due to the close proximity of the M20 motorway carriageway and drainage, existing HV cables at high level in the bank and pockets of very hard rock making for complex temporary works.
The works were completed over a phased period to ensure minimal disruption to the adjacent businesses and general public.
