KIMS Hospital is the largest independent private hospital in Kent. Located just off the M20 in Maidstone, it treats privately insured, self-funding and NHS patients. The latest addition to the campus is the new Innovation Centre, built by Maidstone Borough Council.
We supported main contractor Rydon with its tender, and subsequently secured the enabling, groundworks and RC frame packages by competitive tender.
The enabling package comprised archaeological attendance, a new crossover and access on to the site, and installation of a piling mat. Groundworks included constructing RC pile caps, ground beams and the ground fl oor slab. We also installed gabion basket retaining walls on the external boundaries, pumped foul-water drainage and permeable surfacewater drainage into an attenuation tank with off-site discharge via a swale. External finishes are clay paviours with ragstone feature paving.
The RC frame extended to three fl oors plus a roof level, with circular feature columns and a third floor terrace area, which presented some construction challenges. Staircases were supplied precast and lifted into position. All concrete and aggregates were supplied by our quarry, with our Masonry department providing Kentish ragstone cladding.
