One mile from the finish

The team of Gallagher cyclists took part in a 3 day, multi-stage cycling event, covering approximately 225 miles, from just west of Milan, around the lakes of Northern Italy - an area known as 'the Italian Lake District', to raise money for Demelza Hospice.

Regular updates on how the team - Stephen Gallagher, Richard Harrison, Keith Watkins, Adrian Hollamby and Jerome Stephens - are getting on during their challenge will be posted below.

As they finished a very tiring Day 1, the team were overwhelmed to see that their supporters had raised over £13,000. They would like to thank everyone who has supported them so far, raising much needed funds for the fantastic charity Demelza Hospice.

And they are off!

Wednesday 4th September

Arrival in Italy

The team arrived in Milan on Wednesday evening, all psyched up to start their bike ride the following morning.

After an eventful journey from the UK, they eventually arrived in their hotel in Milan on Wednesday evening. Gatwick was interesting, 6 participants ventured through baggage drop and only 5 were successful in retrieving baggage In Milan.

Richard Harrison has been on a shopping trip to replenish supplies in the ultra fashionable suburbs of Milan - thankfully an EasyJet sponsored allowance of £25 was suffice for two pairs of under crackers and sod all else...

Still no sign of luggage but a frustrated wife missed ‘bake off’ to deliver two days worth of replacement cycle wear to a Demelza mule, which with a with a friendly pharmacist offer drugs aplenty, a full replacement luggage light kit was soon collated.

Newbie Jerome choose the hotel in Milan - very nice but miles out of the centre and a 120 Euro dare to the next hotel.

So Day 1 was rather taxing - 3 cancelled taxi journeys based on price, one final fare for 120 Euro, 2 hours in a male dominated Spa and 6 hours refreshment recoup.

Success of day - super fit Adrian cannnot handle his drink and will be at the back of the pack regretting his 3 double g&ts!

Jerome was sending love notes to Russell Hockley saying ‘wish you were here’ and cannot understand why we are concerned in his training schedule. Richard and Stephen tried to prepare a heart felt video for KB, eventually giving up laughing... but know he’s a legend and will love the fact we are going to suffer in the mountains for the next day or two....

They were also amazed to discover that Adrian is a magazine cover star in Italy!
