Gallagher was appointed by Bowmer & Kirkland to undertake the groundworks, externals and S278 works for a new 21,000 sq ft Waitrose store in Guildford, Surrey. 

The new store, off York Road, was constructed on the groundfloor level with residential apartments above. There is a basement car park for residents and a large external car park for the supermarket customers.

Gallagher’s contract included:

  • Enabling works and tree clearance
  • Construction of piling platform and piling attendance
  • Pile breakdown and preparation of pile heads
  • Construction of RC capping beam
  • Reduced level excavation and cut and fill earthworks
  • FW and SW drainage (including pumping station and interceptors)
  • Construction of substructure foundations, lift pits and cores
  • Construction of RC retaining walls
  • Import, place and compact 6F2 and type 1 to car-park areas and external works
  • Installation of PCC kerbs, edgings and channels
  • Installation of street furniture
  • Hard landscaping paving
  • S278 works
