A group of 15 Royal Engineers from Brompton Barracks has visited Gallagher’s Hermitage Quarry to learn about quarrying, a skill that can be vital when they are on operations in places such as Afghanistan.
Royal Engineers provide military engineering and other technical support to the British Armed Forces, and this can include quarrying for stone for road construction, rebuilding etc.
The Royal Engineers asked if they could visit Hermitage Quarry so they could see a quarry at work. They were given a tour of the quarry and shown the full production process, from blasting to loading, crushing, screening, storing to recycling, infilling and finally restoration.
