Maidstone United has won The Football Foundation Community Club of the Year award. This was in recognition of the work that Maidstone United has done within the local community and with community teams over the last year.

The award was presented at the Non League Paper’s National Game Awards in association with Budweiser on Wednesday 15th May. The ceremony, held at Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage, celebrated the non league game with awards including Fair Play, Unsung Hero and Fan of the Year.

John Harvey, the club's Head of Community and stadium manager, when collecting the award, said, "it sums up our first year back home. We're back and we're already in the hearts of the town, you can't get away from us! We've worked hard to engage the community – and it's a lot to do with our fantastic new pitch.”

This award is the perfect end to what has been a remarkable first season for Maidstone United FC in its new Gallagher Stadium. After 24 years away from Maidstone, Maidstone United FC returned home to Maidstone in the Summer of 2012 following the construction of its new Gallagher Stadium by the Gallagher Group.

The impressive new stadium has a hi-tech 3G pitch which means that it is used by the Club's first team, its 25+ community teams and other local clubs, businesses, community groups and schools all year round and in all weathers. Every home match has been watched by a capacity crowd of 2000, which has not only benefited the club but also local businesses and pubs.

The season ended with the club being promoted to the Ryman Premier Division for next season.

The philosophy of fun and learning has seen the club really establish themselves in the community, worthy winners of the National Game Awards. Maidstone may play in amber but they certainly have a golden future.
