A groundbreaking ceremony has taken place for the new Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery which is currently under construction in Maidstone.
The ceremony was attended by Phyllis Holt, who represented a group of clinicians who will part own the Institute, Pat Gallagher, Paul Abrahams of Vinci Construction, Franz Dickmann, Mayor Rodd Nelson-Gracie and Maidstone councillors Malcolm Greer and Chris Garland.
The Kent Institute for Medicine and Surgery is a new £90 million hospital campus, which will serve the needs of the people of Kent, delivering complex surgical care, day treatment and outpatient consultation for a variety of clinical specialities. The new Kent Clinic will mean that people can be treated locally without having to travel to London - healthcare needs for the most demanding conditions will be met locally for the first time.
Gallagher is undertaking the complete infrastructure package incorporating substructures, drainage and external works. In addition we will be constructing the new access road and making improvements to an existing roundabout. Aggregates and ready mix concrete will be supplied from our nearby Hermitage Quarry. Work will run through to October 2013 spread over two or three phases.
