Two groups of Year 5 pupils from Barming Primary School have visited Hermitage Quarry to learn about rocks and quarrying as part of their curriculum.
During their visit, they explored the geology and heritage of Kentish Ragstone and the quarrying process, from stone production to recycling, landfill and restoration. Although the weather was not kind, the students were given a tour of the quarry, including going through the lorry wheel wash which they all seemed to enjoy! For one group the highlight of their visit was witnessing a blast.
Two more groups from Barming School will visit the quarry at the beginning of July when hopefully the weather will be kinder!
Gallagher has set all the children from Barming Primary School who visit the quarry a challenge! A competition highlighting what they learned on their trip. They can write, draw or be as creative as they like about their trip to the quarry. The best entries will win prizes. The closing date for entries in 30 July 2012.
