• Our Services

  The Gallagher Group began as a civil engineering and groundworks contractor and has grown to have an unrivalled reputation for offering the best in property development, ‘design and build’ contracting, plant and quarrying. We are a local producer and supplier of ‘Kentish ragstone’ aggregate, ready mix concrete and recycled aggregate. In addition, we operate landfill sites.

  • Aggregates, Ready Mix Concrete & Landfill

    Gallagher supplies over 60 different products including primary aggregates, recycled aggregates, ready mix concrete, soils and Kentish Ragstone block stone for new build and heritage projects. We also operate a landfill site.

    • Aggregates

      Gallagher Aggregates can produce in excess of one million tonnes per annum of construction materials which are processed into more than 60 different products, including primary and recycled aggregates, ready mix concrete, soils and Kentish Ragstone block stone for new build and heritage projects.

    • Ready Mix Concrete

      Gallagher produces a full range of concrete mixes and floor screeds from our two BSI accredited concrete plants. Our high levels of repeat business are as a result of our quality products and personalised service.

    • Recycling

      Gallagher is one of Kent's leading suppliers of recycled products. It operates a modern recycling facility, producing recycled aggregates, including washed recycled aggregates, from construction and demolition materials (concrete, bricks, tiles), asphalt and tarmacadam spoil, and utility arisings.

    • Landfill

      Gallagher operates an efficiently managed landfill site at Hermitage Quarry. Inert waste that cannot be recycled is used to fill the void left by quarrying, enabling the land to be returned to a combination of farmland, hedgerows and broadleaved woodland.

    • Hermitage Quarry

      Hermitage Quarry is one of the last two remaining Kentish Ragstone quarries. It has the capability to produce in excess of 1 million tonnes of aggregates per annum, which are processed into more than 60 different construction materials.

      • Kentish Ragstone

        Gallagher is the last remaining company still actively quarrying Kentish Ragstone. Kentish Ragstone is the only hard rock available at shallow depth in the South East of England. Kentish Ragstone is an important natural resource and is the most widespread building stone used throughout the South East of England.

        • Geology

          Kentish Ragstone is the only hard rock available at shallow depth in the South East of England. The Kentish Ragstone outcrop is of superior quality in Maidstone and Sevenoaks compared to other areas of the Hythe Beds.

        • History

          Hard rock needed for building has always been in short supply in the South East of England so Kentish Ragstone, the only significant source of hard rock in the region, has been in demand since the Roman times. Gallagher continues this tradition by supplying stone for the restoration and repair of historical buildings, thus ensuring that the repairs blend in with traditional Kentish Ragstone.

        • 21st Century

          There is still a real demand for Kentish Ragstone today. It is used for construction, road building, coastal defences, art projects and repairing historical buildings. Kentish Ragstone is being increasingly specified by architects as awareness of its attributes grow.

        • Kentish Ragstone image library

          Gallagher has put together an image library of buildings throughout the South East that have been built of Kentish Ragstone; these range from Leeds Castle built in 1119 to houses, bridges and walls built in the last few years. Also included are examples of historical buildings that have recently been restored using Kentish Ragstone, thus ensuring the repairs blend in with the traditional Kentish Ragstone.

      • Production Process

        Gallagher Aggregates Ltd, is now the only remaining company actively quarrying Kentish Ragstone. Gallagher operates two quarries in Kent, supplying over 60 different products including primary aggregates, recycled aggregates, ready mix concrete, soils and block stone for new build and heritage projects.

      • Educational Visits

        At Gallagher, we believe it is important that everyone understands the quarrying industry, from the geology and heritage of Kentish Ragstone to the actual quarrying process and the restoration of a quarry. We welcome visits to our quarry from schools, colleges, interest groups and societies.

    • Hermitage Estate

      Set within the 600 acre Hermitage Estate is a successful cattle breeding farm, an equine centre, woodland and 220 acres of grassland.

      • Land Reinstatement

        Gallagher's principle is to reinstate the land after quarrying to a better condition than before and to provide a sustainable future environment.
