Work starts on Scania's new Gatwick service centre
Work is under way on delivering a new Scania (Great Britain) Limited commercial vehicle service centre at Pease Pottage, near Crawley in East Sussex.
The state-of-the-art facility will be built by Kent-based Gallagher Properties and will provide a comprehensive range of services for the area's truck, bus and coach operators. Included amongst the premises' leading-edge facilities will be a specialist workshop bay dedicated to the servicing, repair and maintenance of biogas-fuelled vehicles. In accordance with Scania's sustainability goals, the entire development will involve the implementation of a far-reaching environmental management plan.
Offering excellent access to the M23 from the site on the west side of Brighton Road, immediately adjacent to Pease Pottage services, the new facility will employ 40 people when fully operational in early Spring 2019.
The proposed 1,871m2 two storey building, which includes a five bay workshop large enough to handle trucks and trailers, can operate 24-hours-a-day as it is not near residential properties.
Scania identified the need to develop a new facility to serve its customers along the M23 corridor. It tasked Gallagher Properties with finding a suitable site after Gallagher successfully delivering Scania’s Brooklyn Park service centre in Maidstone, adjacent to junction 6 of the M20.
Adrian Inscoe, Regional Executive for Scania in the South East comments, "With almost immediate access to the motorway, the Gatwick service centre at Pease Pottage will ensure our customers can get to and from our facility easily and efficiently. We are also confident the new site will help boost sales of our world class commercial vehicles. As such, the site is a perfect match for our customers, our staff and the local economy."
Nick Yandle of Gallagher Properties says, "Scania’s experience with us at Maidstone, and its desire to establish a new centre close to Crawley and nearby Gatwick airport, led us to find the site at Pease Pottage. This new service centre will be an important part of Scania’s support for its customers and we’re very proud to be delivering it for them."
