Eclipse Park, Maidstone
Gallagher Contractors constructed phase 1 of Eclipse Park as Principal
Contractor under a JCT Design & Build contract. Phase 1 comprises two
modern grade A office buildings with under-croft car parking and roof top
meeting rooms looking out over terrace areas and green roofs.
With a gross office floor area of 33,000 sq ft, the buildings are constructed
with reinforced concrete frames, ‘bubble-deck’ concrete floors, terrazzo
floors to circulation areas and staircase, cherry veneer joinery and full air
conditioning. The external facades were changed during the design
development process to be an integrated curtain walling system in lieu of
the proposed independent cladding and window packages. External escape
stairs were constructed from structural steelwork with timber cladding.
Considerable attention was given to the external works where profiled
reinforced concrete retaining walls (straight and curved) deal with differences
in ground level and surface treatments are a mix of macadam, block paving
and well stocked landscape areas.
All ground-works and substructures were carried out by Gallagher
Contractors labour and plant and all aggregates and ready mix concrete
were supplied by Gallagher Aggregates with surplus spoil taken to
Gallagher’s land fill site at Ryarsh. The concrete frame is also formed using
Gallagher ready mix concrete.
The Gallagher design team included MKA (Architects), Knapp Hicks
(Structural Engineers) and LHP (M&E Services), all overseen by the Gallagher
design manager.
