Maidstone Borough Council, Maidstone
This project is to construct a new council depot on a three-acre site at
Parkwood, south of Maidstone. The contract is worth over £3 million and
has been awarded to Gallagher Contractors as Principal Contractor on a
lump sum basis under a design and build contract. In addition to the
modern office and administration building the project involves large areas
of external car parking and concrete hard standing.
The Gallagher team has spent several months working up the detailed
design to ensure that it meets the client’s requirements, it is cost effective
and that it will run smoothly on site, finishing on time and to a good
standard. Gallagher will ensure that the site is well presented and well
organised to enable the works to progress professionally and efficiently,
without causing nuisance.
Having recently obtained planning permission for the project, Gallagher will
commence works on site in early February 2008.
The Gallagher team includes Cornish Architects, Paul Owen Associates
(structural engineers), ESP (mechanical engineers) and dha Planning – a
team that has successfully worked together on several projects.
This is another contract where the full range of Gallagher’s operations have
come together for the benefit of the project. Development experience has
helped with the planning and design process, in house civil engineering
operations mean well design and efficiently executed ground works to
complement the design and build skills, and it will be Gallagher aggregates,
ready mix concrete and landfill that complete the story.
The site has been registered with the Considerate Constructors scheme and
is targeted to achieve a Very Good BREEAM rating.
