St Nicholas Church, Peper Harow

Gallagher Aggregates Ltd supplied Kentish Ragstone for the restoration project for an 11th Century Church in Surrey which was severely damaged by fire on Christmas Eve 2007.

Gallagher Aggregates Ltd supplied Kentish Ragstone lump rock to Universal Stone Ltd for a repair and restoration project it undertook with Valley Builders Ltd on St Nicholas Church in Peper Harow.

The restoration project included stone work, extensive reconstruction of the roofs, restoration and replacement of marble columns, repair and conservation of Pugin ceilings to the Middleton Chapel and the Chancel, and complete reconstruction of the Tower floors and lead covered roof. In addition to the restoration project, the church was given a 21st-century makeover with the addition of underfloor heating and a WC. The church was made as energy efficient as possible, with solar panels on the flat roof of the tower, hidden behind the parapets, and an air source heat pump.

The restoration project received a highly commended certificate in the Repair and Restoration category in the Natural Stone Awards 2012 which were announced at the end of November, with Gallagher Aggregates Ltd being recognised as a supplier of quality stone.
