Ocado distribution centre, Erith
McLaren has constructed a 50,000m2 online shopping distribution centre for Ocado with associated external areas in Erith, Kent. Gallagher was appointed to undertake the enabling and groundworks for the project.
Gallagher’s contract involved:
- Processing soils, 22,000m3 of stockpiled soil.
- Breaking up the old foundations and recycling / reusing them within the new works. Hydraulic breakers and guillotines breakout the slabs, old foundations and obstructions. Crushing and screening the heavily reinforced concrete to generate 60,000m3 of 6f2, type1, shingles and sand, necessary for the whole of the permanent works.
- Excavation of 24,000m3 from borrow pits to generate the temporary material to construct the earthworks profiles, capping off with the generated crushed material
- All culverts, drainage, services, external works, 278 and Section 50 works.
The groundworks and infrastructure package consisted of substructures, drainage, kerbing, preparation of areas for concrete service yard slabs, and services.
