Harris Academy, Falconwood
A new Secondary Academy was constructed on the current school’s playing fields. This involved the construction of a purpose built building incorporating classrooms, a kitchen, welfare facilities and a new sports hall.
Gallagher was appointed by Willmott Dixon Construction Limited to undertake the external works package following the first 19,000 m3 bulk earth moving phase. Gallagher's contract included tarmac and block paved/slabbed finishes, installation of a SUDS drainage system, all services appropriate to the structure and reinforcement concrete retaining walls.
Following demolition of the existing school buildings, Gallagher returned to site to construct a new car park and a workshop over the footprint of the old school buildings. After the second 11,000 m3 bulk earth moving phase and re-profiling of the levels of the site, Gallagher installed all the necessary services, lighting and drainage as required.
The construction waste from this project has been taken to Gallagher’s Hermitage Quarry for recycling.
This contract is a further example of Gallagher’s pre-eminence in the current secondary school rebuilding programme.
