East Kent Access Phase II

Gallagher is a major supplier of aggregates for Phase II of the East Kent Access Programme near Sandwich in Kent, supplying 100,000 tonnes of materials to the scheme, of which 80,000 tonnes were recycled products.

The main contractor for this £87 million project is a joint venture of Volker Fitzpatrick and Hochtief. Phase II of the East Kent Access Programme involves improvement to the A299 and A256, including the construction of 8km of dual carriageway as well as a jacked box structure required to construct 135 metres of dual carriageway underneath the existing Ramsgate to Canterbury railway line.

Gallagher’s involvement in this project clearly enabled the contractors to deliver the programme timetable as we supplied up to 2,000 tonnes per day during the road construction phases. By being able to source the materials locally and utilise recycled materials where possible, we were able to help the main contractor reduce the environmental impact of the scheme.
