Planning update on new Next store

  • Proposed Next store at Eclipse Park

Maidstone Borough Council's Planning Committee considered the application for the new Next Home & Fashion store at Eclipse Park on Thursday 6th June 2013.

We are pleased that the application was approved subject to the finalisation of a legal agreement and planning conditions which we expect to conclude quickly with the Borough Council.

It will also need to be referred to the National Planning Casework Unit as it is a departure from the Development Plan.

This will be one of approximately twenty such stores to be constructed by Next across the country and it will offer a mix of homeware, DIY products and fashion in a state-of-the-art store constructed of brickwork, natural stone and feature glazing.

Councillors were supportive of the many economic benefits of the scheme which represents an investment of £9 million into Maidstone and creates 180 new jobs. It should also help to attract more people to the Maidstone area, to the benefit of the town centre.

We would like to thank the hundreds of local people who gave their support for the new store during the consultation period and through social media.

The target opening for the store is the second half of 2014.
