Work starts on London Gateway
Construction is now underway at London Gateway for DP World, the UK’s newest deep-sea container port, which will also be combined with Europe’s largest logistics park. Situated 25 miles east of central London on the north bank of the River Thames in Stanford-Le-Hope, Essex, London Gateway will provide unrivalled deep-sea shipping access.
Gallagher Aggregates has secured an order from Dredging International for 50,000t of Filter Rock to be used in the revetment works for this new deep-sea container terminal.
In addition, Gallagher has started work on the construction of the new port & park administration building for DP World on bahalf of ISG Jackson. Gallagher’s current scope of works will comprise of the earthworks and reinforced concrete substructures for the new three storey office administration block. It also include external service yard, drainage and external works.
This element of the project is due for completion on 1st May 2013; Gallagher will be using its specialism to reduce its on-site duration to two visits from the planned three, and its time on site from a perceived 30 weeks to 23 weeks.
This part of the development is only a very small part of the overall £1.8 billion investment programme which is envisaged to last for approximately 15 years.
