A group of Year 10 pupils from Maplesden Noakes School in Maidstone recently spent a day at Gallagher to see first hand how a business works, as part of their GCSE Business Studies course.

The students spent the morning at Gallagher’s head office, where they were given talks and practical demonstrations on the day to day running of the business. These included creating business documents, electronic communications, demonstrations on using office equipment, health and safety and job opportunities within business administration.

After lunch they visited Hermitage Quarry where they learnt about the quarrying industry, from the geology and heritage of Kentish Ragstone to the actual quarrying process and the restoration of a quarry. From our viewing platform they were able to see the whole quarry at work, from stone production to recycling and landfill. The day ended with the students being given the opportunity to closely examine one of our loading shovels.
