The outgoing Mayor of Maidstone, Councillor Brian Mortimer, and Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Councillor Fran Wilson, have visited Maidstone United FC's new stadium, currently being constructed by the Gallagher Group as Principal Contractor.

They were accompanied on their visit by Pat Gallagher, Chairman of the Gallagher Group, who showed them the newly laid synthetic pitch. The Gallagher Stadium is the first football ground in the country to include a hi-tech 3G pitch from the outset and it will enable the stadium to be used by community teams, local clubs and schools all year round. The Mayor was paritcularly interested to see the new stadium as he was a keen football player in the past.

Work is progressing well and is scheduled to be completed well in time of Maidstone United FC's opening fixture on 14 July against Brighton and Hove Albion.
