Local football teams train with Charlton Athletic's Scott Wagstaff
The players at Millstream United Football Club have enjoyed a surprise kick around with Charlton Athletic’s first team player Scott Wagstaff.
The players came together for a special training session on Thursday 15 September to receive new football kits following a sponsorship deal with local company the Gallagher Group, and were surprised when they were joined by Maidstone-born Scott Wagstaff. Scott was invited to come by Millstream United FC’s coach Matt Thacker.
Scott Wagstaff said, “When I was asked to come along to see the players of Millstream FC receive their smart, new football kits, I was more than happy to oblige. It was a real privilege for me to be able to pass on some ball skills to these youngsters, who all show real potential. It is great to see that children these days have so many more opportunities than I had as a boy to learn football skills and to receive top quality coaching, as the earlier they start playing the better.”
Matt Thacker of Superskills UK said, “When I knew that all the players from the three Millstream United teams would be together to receive their new football kits, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to surprise them with a visit from my old friend Scott Wagstaff. The players all behaved impeccably and showed everyone what great footballers they are. I would like to thank Gallagher for sponsoring the team and for making this all possible.”
Millstream United FC are based at Ryarsh village hall, where they both train and play. There are three teams; Under 10s, Under 9s and Colts Under 9s. The Under 10 team won their league last season and already the three teams are doing brilliantly this season, winning all their games.
Millstream United FC’s three teams are coached by Matt Thacker of Superskills UK, who, together with Assistant Head Coach Aaron Brown, coaches over 250 boys and girls aged 4 to 15 each week in the Ryarsh and Leybourne areas. The company runs after school clubs, holiday courses, one2one training, evening courses and Olympic themed courses, and also coaches a number of teams including Millstream FC and Leybourne FC.
Gallagher was pleased to be able to support Millstream United FC through this sponsorship deal and to supply all the players with a smart new football kit. Gallagher is greatly involved in the Ryarsh area and has just completed the restoration of a large void that was left after many years of sand excavation by a local brick company. The site has been infilled with inert waste and has now been prepared and seeded to return it to agricultural use. A pond has also been formed which will quickly become a well-established and permanent wildlife feature of this restored site.
