KCC approve plans to extend Hermitage quarry

We are pleased to report that at their committee meeting on 10th May, Kent County Council approved plans to extend Hermitage quarry. This decision is subject to approval by the Secretary of State. If approval is confirmed it represents a further 23 years of quarrying and restoration at Hermitage quarry. The debate was thorough and lengthy culminating in a decision between ‘need’ and jobs versus ecological harm and mitigation. During the debate no-one was other than complimentary about the Gallagher operation and our track record for doing things to a high standard.    Final approval will enable Gallagher to move into the phase of preparation and enabling development necessary prior to extracting ragstone for processing. We estimate this preparation phase will take 2 years to undertake and require an investment of £2million
