New MBC Depot on Target For Autumn Opening
The depot, at Langley Park Farm, Bircholt Road, Park Wood received planning permission just before Christmas last year and work has now underway on the building.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Malcolm Greer, said: “The new depot is due to be finished by September 2009 and is being built by local construction company Gallagher’s. They are doing a really good job and we have seen the work progress well.”
Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Mark Wooding explained how the depot would include a number of green credentials. He said: “We expect this building to get a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating, which is pleasing news and will be good for the environment.
“Work to help this includes solar hot water panels, rainwater harvesting and recycling water saving devices, natural ventilation, intelligent lighting and low energy fittings and cycle facilities for staff.”
The BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings, and this is what Maidstone council has based its work on. The new depot will be funded by the sale of the old depot, at Armstrong Road.
